Jail The Britishers has build this Jail in 1906 because it was entirely made up of single cells to keep prisoners in solitary confinement, the prison acquired the name, 'cellular'. Originally it was seven pronged structure, with a dominant central tower with a honey comb of corridors. Today only three prongs are left standing and is enough to give a fair idea in what condition the detainees were kept. Today the day of detention are over and jail has been converted into a national memorial on 30th December, 1997.
Ross Island The Ross Island was once a small, sleepy island with dense jungles, intertwining creepers, thick foliage and grandfather trees. In 1858, British ships arrived on its shores to make it their administrative headquarters. Almost overnight, the island was transformed into a thriving imperial settlement with mansions, churches and recreational areas. Numerous trees and gigantic creepers were usurped and marauded to erect this colonial fantasy. Viper Island Close to Port Blair, it was the Jail where the Britishers kept the under trails. When the Cellular Jail was built in 1906 this was abandoned
